So The Walking Dead returns for its fifth season, and what an amazing opening No Sanctuary was. From the slaughtering of the survivors early on to the reuniting of Carol and Tyrese with the main group it was a biggest televisual ride since the epic prison standoff. Taking me from horrific repulsion to tearful happiness inside an hour, this was packed with the usual amazing visual effects. Carols character really shone in this episode, something she has been doing a lot of in recent times developing into a tough heroine rather than the weedy housewife of Season 1 and 2. Daryl Dixon probably got the best melee zombie kill since Michonne’s wire garrotting routine, which was executed (pardon the pun) with awesome realism.
Deviating quite a lot from the nutters on the farm in the computer game we get a slight glimpse of what drove the ‘Termites’ (Terminus survivors) the way they went. I feel this reason didn’t quite work for me but that’s just a minor personal quibble.
All in all, expectations were high and they cast and crew nailed it once again showing that The Walking Dead is one of or in my eyes, the… best program on the box in recent years and it still deliver. 10/10
