OK sorry to dwell on a light hearted subject, but for some of us its downright fun! Today’s little entry on being a Zombie Apocalypse Survivor is all about bug out bags. For those of you unaware, this is a term given to a backpack in which you keep rations and equipment. A typical bug out bag is the same size as the one this guy is carrying.
Inside it he keeps everything from weapons to camping gear, fishing equipment to the obligatory first aid kit, along with three days of water and rations. That’s got to be a heavy kit.
This got me thinking about how fast the Zombies would be? In Night Of The Living Dead, they shambled along at about 2 miles per hour. (Seriously more horrid, imagine how slow death would be if you was caught).
Resident Evil or The Walking Dead has them strolling along at about normal walking speed, 4 miles per hour.
The remake of Dawn Of The Dead had them running like Usain Bolt with a rocket up his ass. 7 miles per hour. (WTF? They’re dead, they have rigour mortis and rotting muscles and ligaments!!! Get real Hollywood!)
Now I don’t know about you but i think the guy in the PIC above may have a bit of bother if it came to running. Though his pack is ideal for three days of camping after a natural disaster etc or getting otherwise stranded, I think a more ideal Zombie Apocalypse bug out bag would allow you to move around more freely. A sports sized one like in this PIC for example.
They generally have about three or four compartments and are large enough to carry a couple of days of rations, first aid, and various other bits such as tarp and line, and the foil ‘space blanket’ for warmth. However provided its packed carefully you should still be stealthy enough to outrun at least the first two types of Zombie. I’d rather have that chance and scavenge anything else I need as and when needed. The chances of surviving such an event is pretty low, so I need to be as agile and prepared.
I shall endeavour to assemble such a kit and introduce you to it here in a little while. Of course, such is the way of the world the big bug out bag is more appropriate in the reality. The Zombie one is just for shits n giggles.
(Spoilers if you haven’t seen the latest Walking Dead yet)
The aforementioned episode of The Walking Dead was not only good but also a little inspirational for me. I am referring to what Morgan was served whilst he was in the prison cell. Naturally the rations were very basic and consisted of some sliced tomato with 2 burgers which turned out to be veggie burgers . That was a main meal . I am guessing it did not contain more than 200 calories . Desperate times of course . However it must have been rather healthy and I am wondering if I could manage to live on a menu of things grown found or foraged for a few days and whether it will make me feel healthier on the inside . Although I will not be entirely vegetarian I shall do my best to avoid meats whenever possible including meat products . Any other needed calories will be made up with candy bars but for the most part I shall be eating more fruit and vegetables and other cereals and roughage. Of course I will be taking vitamin supplements once per day with added iron. That’s allowed because I have some in my bug out bag.
Fingers crossed .
OK anyone who knows me know I am a fan of AMCs #The Walking Dead and I have looked forward to the spin off for so long. It doesn’t / hasn’t delivered for me 😦 . I am three shows in so far and and these people seem to be as thick as pig shit. I’m sorry but the only thing good about it is the special fx. Huge waste of money #AMC , you should be pumping that budget into the original and best. Besides….wasn’t it budget cuts that buggered up the origionals second season?
(spoiler ⚠ )
#TheWalkingDead. So there we have it. Ninety minutes of Episode. Did it hit the mark? Based on season three and fours climactic shows I dont believe it came close but there ‘is’ some good writing, intense moments, story progression and of course, inevitable deaths. This was more sad than shocking. We have a returning character, and the W begins to make sense.
The question is, where do they go from here? Well some of the W rumours have been spot on correct, therefore a new threat lays in wait. With the latest couple of deaths, Deanna decided the community are now going to be trained up. So i see a battle between two factions in the future but other than this its anyones guess.
One thing I’m sure is that season six will not open with a thunderously groundbreaking start like season five did, which i still regard as the best screen season opener of alltime.
So tonight is #TheWalkingDead season 5 finale episode, with an amazing 90 minutes for a treat.
Each and everytime this show begins to make you think it cant go anywhere else, something jaw dropping happens.
Will it hit the mark like the season five opener? Lets hope so, it has much to live up to through all the rumours and hype. How’s Rick going to react to his right hand woman knocking him out? Is Glens time up? Will Morgan catch up?
Fellow fans and viewers, happy watching!
So The Walking Dead returns for its fifth season, and what an amazing opening No Sanctuary was. From the slaughtering of the survivors early on to the reuniting of Carol and Tyrese with the main group it was a biggest televisual ride since the epic prison standoff. Taking me from horrific repulsion to tearful happiness inside an hour, this was packed with the usual amazing visual effects. Carols character really shone in this episode, something she has been doing a lot of in recent times developing into a tough heroine rather than the weedy housewife of Season 1 and 2. Daryl Dixon probably got the best melee zombie kill since Michonne’s wire garrotting routine, which was executed (pardon the pun) with awesome realism.
Deviating quite a lot from the nutters on the farm in the computer game we get a slight glimpse of what drove the ‘Termites’ (Terminus survivors) the way they went. I feel this reason didn’t quite work for me but that’s just a minor personal quibble.
All in all, expectations were high and they cast and crew nailed it once again showing that The Walking Dead is one of or in my eyes, the… best program on the box in recent years and it still deliver. 10/10
Right then, I seem to have everything I need, just need to make the water bottles up in the morning. I have planned to go on the longest ride I have ever been on. Wether it is one way and a train back or both ways this will be one heck of a good adventure if it comes off successfully. My last action tonight will be watching The Walking Dead. Hope to be back soon, safely and with a new jamstracks clip. Peace.
