Am I Pagan?
Whilst writing my third book, The Druids Of Pneuma, I did quite a lot of research into various belief systems around the globe. I don’t believe in a personified God. I accept nature itself as the bringer an expeller of everything, which I feel makes me Animist at best.
There are a million people out there now ready to trounce that saying, “Yeah, but God put nature there.”
Well, that’s their belief. I respect that, and I’m not even saying they’re wrong. But I can’t see why they need to contradict mine rather than respect it either. My belief ends at what I see with my own eyes. So… am I pagan?
Well, Paganism has personified God’s as well. However, these are usually attributed to seasons or occasions. It is these seasons and occasions I like to celebrate via my love of the natural world on a spiritual level. Many of course have been renamed and reworked to tempt people into new spin-off faiths, Christianity for example, a mix of Mithras and Paganism. Within me, you will find no contempt towards anyone’s religion other than those whom try to enforce it. This action is wrong, and even stated so in their own holy texts sometimes. You can believe what you like, you can’t do what you like!
We are all sharing time on a great big rock floating around the sun, faced with the same daily dilemmas and hardships as others. It’s only by working in tandem anything gets done.
That all said, I suppose I am a Pagan albeit on a slightly blanched atheistic level.
Whichever path you choose to take in life, walk it as a great person. Blessed be.
Its a strange thing, despite my severely religious upbringing I managed to somehow lose faith in my twenties but the more time that passes by the more ludicrous christianity in all its forms seems to become. Sorry if you do exist God, there is just too little evidence left in the world to support this claim for me, especially in a world with so much crap going on the all knowing all caring seems to be kopping a deaf one as well. If its all the same ill stick to all my friends and we will try our best to work everything out between us.
As for the driving power, I do get to see nature working hard all the time, its beauty, its savagery, its perpetual cycle not only on the Earth but far out into space as well. It gives life, it takes life it conserves and preserves without claiming to be all good and we understand much of how it works without needing a chauvinistic and phobic little text book which tells us even whom we can sleep with or not whilst some of its distributors are buggering underaged choristers but claiming to be acting on your behalf God.
I ask the women christians why they follow such a book which states, “A woman should be silent and submissive” Timothy chapter 2 verse 11. All this and they’re still happy to eat meat from your ‘unclean section’ for sunday dinner! Church Of England, Sunday School, Methodist Church, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Roman Catholic High School, I was dragged through it all. When nature’s right there in front of us, showing us what it does! If only someone said,
“Right, no killing, stealing, adultery or perversion, basically dont harm other people help them, don’t hurt other people, heal them…and enjoy the wonders of nature while avoiding the dangers and everything will be fine.”
So this may be the last message I send to you God. I’ve got work now so ill leave it there, I don’t want to be too late like you have been this past few of centuries… nay, Millennia.
