I just got an email from the NHS quit smoking cronies. It reminded me that 5years and 4days ago I managed to kick this destructive smelly habit. I’d made several unsuccessful attempts over the years and finally managed to quit out of spite for my ‘then’ house share. Things were getting turbulent and we was in a non smoking rented semi detached house.
I had always been a good boy, and gone down to the bottom of the garden to keep the stink out of the house. Or in the garage. However the other person would always stand at the conservatory door blowing smoke out. This is the one thing I can never fathom about other smokers. The smoke itself isn’t the problem. The rancid odour generating by the burning tobacco itself is. And where ever you hold that cigarette, it the epicentre of the stench. So we ended up with a house that began to smell like an ashtray. I could see where it was heading. If the landlord dropped by and smelled it, I’d get dragged into the blame as well. I wasn’t going to have any of this. I ordered my NHS quit kit, and armed with the body repair chart and mouthfuls of extra strong mints, I managed to kill the habit 6th January 2011 by turning it into a healing game. It would be another year and a half before my debts were cleared and I could move out.
The first two weeks were the hardest, however by May I was cycling double figure distances, and three years later over 40 miles! My sense of taste and smell repaired and on the whole , I feel so much better! Quitting smoking is easier than you think, you just need the right motivation and means. Patches, inhalators and ecigarettes will never work. How can you cure yourself of toxins with something containing toxins? Cold turkey, the right help and a genuine will to quit is the best way to succeed. I was ready…. are you?
